State gives new attention to two Henry County cold cases

Illinois State Police say they are focusing renewed attention on two homicide cases that have been unsolved for decades.

One case involves the September 1974 murder of 16-year-old Mary Ann Becker, whose body was found in her Atkinson, Illinois home.  Multiple police agencies investigated her death as a homicide, but the case remains unsolved.

Another case involves 47-year-old Jone Knapton of East Moline, whose body was found in the Green River four days after she vanished in July 2003.  Multiple agencies investigated hundreds of leads, but the case remained unsolved.

The state police website lists several other unsolved homicide and death investigations across Illinois, including Kathleen Goebeler, whose body was found in 1986 a rural location off Interstate 88 and the murder of Kimberly Mabry in 1995 in rural Whiteside County near Coleta.

Anyone with information about these cases should call Illinois State Police M/Sgt. Chris Endress at (309) 752-4928; Quad Cities Crime Stoppers at (309)-762-9500 or Henry County Crime Stoppers at (800) 227-2324.
