Two dogs died in fire that heavily damaged the basement and main floor of a Davenport home.

The fire was discovered by residents who arrived home to find smoke throughout their house in the 2300 block of Hillandale Road just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 at a house in the 2300 block of Hillandale Road.

A spokesperson for the City of Davenport said firefighters knocked down the fire in about 20 minutes.  A neighboring house to the north of the fire location had damage to exterior siding.

The fire caused extensive damage to the basement and main floor of the house.

The city spokesperson said two dogs perished in the fire.

The cause of the fire was not yet determined.
