Police say a car was heavily damaged but no one was hurt in a crash involving a school bus on a snow-covered road in Hancock County, Illinois.

The crash was reported just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 on Webster road just north of County Road 2400N in Hancock County.

Illinois State Police said the LaHarpe School District bus was northbound on Webster Road when the driver stopped to be sure it was safe to cross the railroad tracks.  That’s when a northbound 2010 Chevrolet passenger car, driven by 28-year-old Travis Sanderson of Carthage, slid into the rear end of the bus.

Police said Sanderson’s car sustained “major front-end damage” but he was not hurt.

There was reportedly minor damage to the bus, and the bus was drivable after the crash.  None of the 12 student passengers reported any injuries.  The driver also was not hurt.

Sanderson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
