On Saturday, February 22nd, 2014, the non-profit organization "A Gathering of Women" hosted their 8th Annual Tea Party at the Holiday Inn in Rock Island.

At the event, the group recognized seven African-American women "who tirelessly continue to work in a variety of ways to make the African American QC Village a better place for not only African Americans but for all Quad Cities," according to a press release.

The "Sheroes" honored include: Diana Allen, Vera Couch, Bonnie Jacobs, Brenda Drew-Peeples, Jewell Perkins, Diane Simmons, and Betty Williams.

The event is also a fundraiser for Cafe on Vine and the Humility of Mary Shelter, Inc.
