High winds toppled a sign and pole which then crushed cars at a dealership in Moline.

It happened in the 4200 block of the Avenue of the Cities at the Kar Mart shop. Police say it happened sometime late Thursday night.

The sign smashed the windshield and knocked out the passenger-side window as it fell on top of a 2002 Buick LeSabre. A Monte Carlo and a Chevy Tahoe were also parked where the sign fell.

The Kar Mart manager initially estimated the fallen sign did as much as $10,000 worth of damage to vehicles on the lot.

The National Weather Service reported overnight wind gusts in our area between 45 and 66 miles per hour.
