Three months after a deadly tornado tore through Washington, Illinois, there’s a volunteer effort to help people who lost everything fix at least something—their photos.

The project, called Saving Memories, is a collaboration between the Washington District Library, Fondulac District Library, and Operation Photo Rescue.

The project provides free digital copies of photos and restoration of damaged photos to Central Illinois tornado and storm victims.

“I don't think I can put it into words. It's the only thing from our wedding that I have, our wedding pictures are gone,” said Shirley Lukavich, a Washington resident who lost her home in the tornado.

“It's the only baby picture I have. It’s more important because my mom gave me that picture years ago,” said Dianna Wara, who is originally from East Moline.

There are three more sessions scheduled. On Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. a session will be held at the Washington District Library in Washington. Sessions will also be held on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Fondulac District Library in East Peoria from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
