A Muscatine, Iowa man pleaded guilty to committing a sex offense involving a preschool-aged child.

Andrew Scott Mayfield, 29, pleaded guilty Tuesday, February 18, 2014 to lascivious acts with a child according to Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren.

Police said Mayfield fondled a preschool-aged child.

“Mayfield had absconded from registration requirements in the State of Illinois due to a juvenile court proceeding in that state involving a sex offense,” Ostergren said.  When he pleaded guilty to the lascivious acts charge, Mayfield also pleaded guilty to one count of sex offender registration violation.

“I am pleased that the defendant entered a guilty plea to this offense and that we were able to spare a very young child from having to testify in court,” Ostergren said.

Mayfield was set to be sentenced April 19, 2014.  He was held in the Muscatine County Jail.
