An Ohio man claims he went to heaven and back as doctors worked for nearly an hour to revive him after his heart stopped.

According to a report by Fox 8, Brian Miller, a 41-year-old husband and father of three was at work when he felt like he was having a heart attack and called 911. He was rushed into emergency surgery, which was successful.

Miller was recovering from surgery when his heart went into a deadly arrhythmia called Ventricular Fibrillation. The condition is described by the American Heart Association as a serious cardiac rhythm disturbance where the heart cannot pump any blood.

Fox 8 reported that intensive care unit doctors worked on Brian feverishly to get his heart working again.

“He had no heart rate, he had no blood pressure, he had no pulse,” said ICU nurse Emily Bishop. “He was down for close to 45 minutes.”

“The only thing I remember is I started seeing a light and I started walking toward the light,” Miller said.

According to the report he said he was heading toward the light walking down a flower-lined path when he saw his mother-in-law, who had recently passed away. He said she stopped him and said he had to go back.

For nearly an hour the medical team couldn’t get his heart to pump. Then suddenly, it started beating again.

“We shocked him four times and on the fourth time it still didn’t work, and out of nowhere, he got his pulse back,” said Bishop. “It’s pretty awesome to see.”

Bishop said for the 45 minutes doctors worked to revive him, his brain was deprived of oxygen.

“The fact that he is up walking, talking, laughing, everything, I mean, that’s amazing,” she said.

Miller said the experience has changed his outlook on life and death.

“There is an afterlife and people need to believe in it, big time.”

He said he is thankful to the medical staff and his mother-in-law for this second chance.
