The Quad City Blues Hockey Club are hitting the ice to "Stick It To Cancer."

On Sunday, February 16th, 2014, the Blues - which is the lone high school team in the Quad City area - hosted the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders at the iWireless Center in Moline for their 4th Annual Cancer Awareness Charity Hockey Games.

Each player wore special jerseys donated by Genesis Health System then auctioned them off with all the proceeds benefiting cancer awareness and the Cancer Care Institute at Genesis Health System.

"It just means a lot being high school kids," says Tyler Wise from Pleasant Valley, Iowa. "Usually, people don't think of high school kids making that big of a difference. Well, we are. You're helping out people that need it. Cancer is expensive. It's nice to be able to help out in as little or as big a way as we possibly can."

Besides the jersey auction, there was also a t-shirt sale, bake sale, and a silent auction at the event to raise funds. Through the Blues' last three events, they've raised around $26,000 for breast cancer research, heart health awareness, and diabetes care.
