The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports more than 60% of adults are not regularly active and 25% are not active at all.

On Saturday, February 15th, 2014, an event in the Quad Cities worked to change that statistic.

UnityPoint Health - Trinity held its 3rd Annual Day of Dance at the RiverCenter in Davenport.

The free event included a health fair, free health screenings, and dance demonstrations by Q.C. SoDa Dance Studio, the Polka Club of Iowa, the Mayer School of Irish Dance, and much more.

Organizers say the goal is to promote heart healthy by getting people moving.

"Dancing is a great activity," says Dan Saskowski, Cadiac Rehab Manager for UnityPoint Health - Trinity. "It's great for your heart and most of all it's fun and fun exercise is an exercise people want to participate in on a frequent basis, so it's a great way to get your heart healthy and stick with an exercise program."

"As most people know, it's been very cold and icy and it's hard to get outside so this is a great way to come inside, burn a lot of calories, have a lot of fun, and learn some movement. It's good for your joints, it's good for your heart, it's good for your lungs. It is a fun, fun day here."

The Day of Dance was organized by UnityPoint Health - Trinity's Spirit of Women Program. "Trinity joined the Spirit of Women Hospital Network, a national coalition of hospitals and healthcare facilities in 100+ U.S. communities, in January 2012. Utilizing a variety of means, Spirit of Women hospitals give women easy access to the knowledge and tools that are vital to helping them make informed healthcare decisions for themselves and their families," according to a press release.
