Rock Falls residents asked to not flush

Crews in Rock Falls was working to fix a problem that cut the water supply off to the entire city.

Water supply was shut off to the City of Rock Falls, Illinois.

The water/street superintendent from Rock Falls said due to an “unfortunate situation” at an area sewer plant, all the water was turned off to the city around 3 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014.

The mayor of Rock Falls said residents were asked to not flush their toilets. Crews were in the process of pumping out 22,000 gallons of sewage as they worked to repair the problem.

Four locations supplying bottled water and portable toilets were being set up for residents to use while the water was shut off.

A decision was expected to be made at 6 a.m. Friday on whether or not schools would be closed.

Rock Falls High School cancelled all games and activities for Thursday evening.

The mayor said no contamination has happened and no illnesses had been reported.

City officials were unsure when the water would be restored.
