Police shoot at stolen car in Burlington

The driver of a stolen car was reportedly still on the loose after an investigator fired three shots at the vehicle.

The driver of a stolen car was reportedly still on the loose after an investigator fired three shots at the vehicle.

Police said they tried to stop a vehicle after it had been reported stolen from the Catfish Bend Casino in Burlington, Iowa, just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014.

Instead of stopping, the suspected thief allegedly drove the vehicle toward a criminal investigations agent.  The agent avoided being struck and fired three shots, with his service weapon, at the suspect.

Police said the stolen car struck the agent’s patrol car and then sped away.

They found the stolen vehicle a short time later, but they had not yet found the suspect.  Police described the suspect as a black man who was wearing a heavy overcoat and a stocking hat.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Burlington Police at (319) 759-2541.
