A man wanted for allegedly stealing a vehicle, driving it at a police agent and crashing into a police car, was captured when he was found asleep in another vehicle.

Police said David Cross, 40, is the man they were searching for in connection with the theft of a casino employee's vehicle at Catfish Bend Casino in Burlington, Iowa just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014.

When a criminal investigations agent tried to stop the stolen vehicle, Cross allegedly drove the vehicle at the agent.  The agent fired three shots at the stolen vehicle.  Cross allegedly crashed into the agent's patrol car before he sped away.  When police later found the stolen vehicle, Cross was gone.

A statement from Iowa State Police said someone called Burlington Police just after 6 a.m. February 13, reporting that a man - matching the description of the car theft suspect - was asleep in the back seat of a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Shields Street.

That's where Cross was arrested.

Cross was charged with felony interference with official acts, assault on a peace officer and operating a vehicle without the owner's consent.

Cross was held in the Des Moines County Jail.
