A boil advisory that affected much of Rock Island has been lifted, according to a spokesperson from the city.

A city spokesperson said that after testing samples from multiple locations, the City of Rock Island Water Treatment Plant found that the water was safe for consumption without boiling. The water pressure had returned to normal.

“This notice does not apply to properties that were issued a separate boil order due to a main break in their area,” said a spokesperson from the city. “Those boil orders remain in effect until notified otherwise.”

The boil advisory had been issued for anyone in the area from 7th Avenue south to the Rock River and 11th Street east to the Moline border.

A boil advisory that has been issued for most of the City of Rock Island was reportedly caused by a high number of water main breaks.

A spokesperson from the city said on Thursday, February 13, 2014, anyone in the area from 7th Avenue south to the Rock River and 11th Street east to the Moline border is under a boil advisory until further notice. All water used for drinking and cooking should be boiled before use.

On Thursday morning the Rock Island Water Treatment Plant reportedly had a drop in system pressure, possibly caused by several water main breaks. City crews had since restored pressure and were working to repair the water main breaks.

"The boil advisory is expected to be lifted in 24 hours," said a spokesperson from the city. "This is just a precaution, there are no indications the water is unsafe for consumption."

A spokesperson from the Rock Island-Milan School District said there would be bottled water available for students and staff to drink during the boil advisory.
