A former Walmart employee is accused stealing nearly $30,000 by tricking managers of three stores into believing he worked there.
The 17-year-old had a name tag and familiarity with Walmart operations after he worked one of the retail giant’s stores in Oklahoma City. Our sister station, KFOR, reports the teen was fired from that store for stealing money.
The teen allegedly conned managers at Walmart stores in Edmond, Moore and Norman into giving him access to cash drawers, merchandise and the cash office. He is accused of simply showing up at the stores and convincing managers he was a Walmart employee.
When he showed up at a store in Edmond, managers put him to work on a cash register. He’s accused of pocketing more than $3,000 that day.
At the store in Moore, the teen reportedly “acted as if he was a general manager from another store…doing an inventory of the store before general managers came to inspect them after the holidays,” according to a police report. The teen was given access to the cash office, and that surveillance cameras captured video of him stuffing bundles of cash into his pockets and clothes.
“He even hugged the manager before he walked out,” KFOR reported.
The teen was finally caught January 30, 2014 at a Walmart in Norman, Oklahoma. When he tried his phony employee act at that store, the con ended and he was arrested.
Altogether, he pocketed nearly $30,000.
The teen’s name was not released because he is a minor.
