Police say a Wyanet man broke into a home in DePue to steal guns and ammunition that he later traded for drugs.

Investigators allege 26-year-old Joshua Dunehew took “three firearms and the associated ammunition” when he broke into a home in DePue, Illinois on January 27, 2014.  They think Dunehew took the weapons to Chicago, where they were “traded or exchanged for an unspecified amount of a controlled substance.”

When they searched a home in Chicago, investigators said they found evidence connected to the Bureau County burglary as well as “a large quantity of controlled substance” and an unspecified amount of cash.  Chicago Police arrested a man at that home during the search.

Dunehew was arrested January 29 on a previous warrant for failure to appear, and on a separate charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Court records show the failure to appear warrant was issued in early January 2014, in connection with an open case against Dunehew in which he was charged with residential burglary in July 2013.

Dunehew was held in the Bureau County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
