February 5 is National Weatherperson’s Day, observed to recognize the men and women who provide your weather forecasts every day.

February 5 is National Weatherperson’s Day, observed to recognize the men and women who provide your weather forecasts every day.

The National Weather Service says the date commemorates the birth of John Jeffries, who began recording daily weather observations in 1774.

Jeffries also took the first weather observation in a balloon in 1784.

National Weatherperson’s Day recognizes meteorologists, forecasters, broadcasters and volunteer weather spotters who work to bring you weather information every day.
