A Davenport man lost his appeal claiming there was insufficient evidence to convict him of running over his girlfriend and leaving her to die.
Eric Olsen was convicted in Scott County in July 2012 of homicide by motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
Wanda Jo Weldy Isenberg had a relationship with Olsen that included orders of protection – the most recent of which had been granted three days before she died of injuries she suffered when she was run over on North Fairmount in January 2012.
Defense attorneys claimed at trial that Wanda had jumped out the window of Olsen’s moving car, and that she was run over by accident. Prosecutors said Olsen did nothing to help Wanda after he ran her over.
Olsen was sentenced in August 2012 to ten years in prison.
Olsen appealed his conviction, telling the Iowa Court of Appeals that the Scott County Court made incorrect rulings regarding evidence, and that there was insufficient evidence to support the convictions.
Scott County Attorney Mike Walton said Wednesday, February 5, 2014 that the Iowa Court of Appeals affirmed the convictions of Eric Scott Olsen for vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatality accident.
