Preston man killed in Iowa snowmobile crash

One person died after he was thrown from a snowmobile in Jackson County, Iowa.

A statement from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said 35-year-old Lucas Peter Stephany was operating a snowmobile westbound in a field when it wrecked at about 2 a.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014.

Investigators said Stephany's snowmobile traveled across 484th Avenue near Highway 64, where it struck a large pile of snow on the west side of the road.

Stephany was thrown from the snowmobile and he hit a large pole.

Stephany was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

An online obituary said visitation for Stephany, who was from Preston, was planned for February 5 and February 6, with funeral services planned for February 6.
