A raise in the minimum wage is moot before it even shows up on pay checks. For example If it is announced that the wage hikes will begin on august 1st. The prices that the minimum workers pay for the things they need most have been raised by June 1st, making the hike worthless to them. The things that raise first are prices in rent and utilities. Then costs for transportation and medicine. Then when the employer sees the raise coming, and how much it’s going to cost him he will either cut peopled hours or lay people off in order to cut his costs and remain competitive in the market.
