The national campaign was still more than 20% below its goal when the Salvation Army of the Quad Cities met its Red Kettle Campaign fundraising goal.

The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities set $750,000 as its goal for fundraising during the latest Red Kettle campaign.  They were about $80,000 short of that goal in early January 2014.

A spokesperson announced Friday, January 31 that they had exceeded their goal by collecting a total of $752,561.

The campaign combines donations in those iconic red kettles with direct mail fundraising and year-end contributions from donors.

“Two special match programs contributed to the success of this year’s campaign.  Hiland Toyota made a large gift that was matched through the Toyota Dealer Match Program. And for the second year in a row, Von Maur matched all donations placed in the Red Kettles at the malls on December 22nd,” the spokesperson said.

The campaign accounts for about 60% of the local Salvation Army’s operating budget.

“The Salvation Army’s work is simply not possible without the people of this community who believe in what we do,” said Quad Cities Coordinator, Major Gary Felton.

As of January 31, the national Red Kettle Campaign goal had not been reached.  The goal was $3 million for this year, and the campaign had raised just under $2.4 million.
