Police say westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were reopened after being blocked at LeClaire, Iowa for a wreck involving an overturned semi.

The wreck was reported at about 2 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 on westbound I-80 at mile marker 305.

Leclaire Police Chief Shane Themas said the driver of the semi told officers he suffered an “undetermined medical issue” that caused him to lose control of the vehicle.  The semi went into the ditch and overturned off the right side of the road.

The driver was trapped and had to be extricated by LeClaire firefighters.

“The roadway was clear and is not believed to have been a factor in the cause of the crash,” Themas said.

Westbound lanes were closed but later reopened to traffic.

The semi driver was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.  His injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.
