A senior living community could be headed to the site of the old Lutheran Hospital and nurses' building in Moline.

City aldermen voted Tuesday, January 28, 2014 to exclusively negotiate with Russell Construction for the development of the 16 acre site known as Hawk Hollow.

Russell is interested in building 24 duplexes and a 100-unit apartment complex for seniors in the city-owned property.

"It's in a great location, overlooks the Mississippi River on the bluff, just up from downtown Moline.  So it's a great piece of property," said Moline Planning and Development Director Ray Forsythe. "It's had a lot of challenges over the years, based on environmental concerns and the hospital that was there and the previous developer.  So we're excited."

Russell will have up to a year to do market research on the housing community.

The city is asking for $700,000 for the land.
