Schools on the Illinois side of the metro went back on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014.

On Tuesday, the Iowa side of the metro went back while the Illinois side of the metro did not. Wednesday though, students were seen outside of Ericsson Elementary walking to school as early as 7:30 a.m. in Moline.

Ericsson Principal Juanita Terronez acted as a crossing guard Wednesday to make sure the students got in safely. It was the first time students had been back to school since Friday, January 24th, 2014.

"When the kids are here, they're learning," Terronez said. "That's what it's all about, but I'm glad that when they did have a chance to stay home, they did, when the temperature was too cold."

Schools in Moline and Rock Island will now be going to school through June of this year. The last day for students in Moline has now been pushed back to June 5th, of 2014.
