Two teenage girls died when the car they were in collided with an SUV northwest of Mason City, Iowa.
A report from Iowa State Police said 19-year-old Tiffany Banta of Forest City was driving a 2004 Grand Am eastbound on B14 in northern Hancock County when she lost control of the car around 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014. Her sister, 15-year-old Chyann Banta, was also in the car.
The report said Banta’s car crossed the center line and an oncoming westbound SUV was unable to avoid colliding with it.
Several media reports indicated roads in that area were covered with ice and snow at the time of the crash.
Tiffany and Chyann Banta were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The report said Tiffany was not wearing a seat belt and Chyann was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The report said the SUV driver, a 68-year-old man from Crystal Lake, Iowa, was not injured.
