Amtrak has cancelled some trains in and out of Chicago, including some service to and from Galesburg, because of weather.

The cancellations affected travelers Monday, January 27 and Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

The Illinois Zephyr and Carl Sandburg (number 380 and 381) trains were cancelled for Tuesday.  Those routes include service between Chicago and Galesburg that includes service to Quincy.  BNSF had closed the corridor between Quincy, Galesburg and Chicago on Sunday evening, January 26.

The cancellations were among more than a dozen train cancellations announced by Amtrak.

“These cancellations are designed to maintain service on most routes while reducing exposure of Amtrak passengers, crews and rail equipment to extreme weather conditions,” according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation. “Passengers who have paid but choose not to travel due to this service disruption can receive a refund or a voucher for future travel. Some reservations booked online can be modified or canceled on or by using the free Amtrak mobile app.”
