Hundreds of Quad Citians are going to stores looking to buy ice melt. The problem is, many stores are apparently running out of the product.

Workers at K&K True Value Hardware in Bettendorf said they didn't have much snow melt on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014. They are also hearing from warehouses that it could be months before they get more of it. Instead, workers say they have plenty of rock salt available, and that should keep them busy the rest of the week.

"I think a lot of people stocked up for the first snow," store manager Casey Keller said. "But anyone who said, 'Oh I can bare it for one storm, but I'm not going to do it again,' Well, they will definitely come in."

Rock salt only works when temperatures are above 15 degrees. According to Thursday's weather forecast, temperatures will not get that high. Experts say that sand can help you gain traction on the ice, if you can't find ice melt or rock salt.
