Sterling Police say they found thousands of dollars worth of marijuana while searching for items stolen in a recent burglary.

Police took a report of a home burglary Sunday, January 19, 2014 at a home in the 1500 block of West Fourth Street in Sterling.  Their investigation led them to get a search warrant for a stolen item they thought was at a home in the 200 block of E. 12th Street.

When they searched the 12th Street home Monday, January 20, police arrested 21-year-old Joshua Gibbons who was wanted for two outstanding warrants in Whiteside County.

During their search of the 12th Street home, police said they found about $7,100 worth of marijuana.

Gibbons was held in the Whiteside County Jail in lieu of $325,000 bond for his outstanding warrants.  Those warrants were for violating probation connected to a firearms conviction and for alleged unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

Sterling Police Department spokesman Sgt. Steven Hubbard said police will also file new charges against Gibbons, alleging unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gibbons remained in the Whiteside County Jail.
