With the snow coming down outside, Saturday, January 18, 2014 was the perfect day for kids at the John Deere Pavilion in Moline to learn the importance that snow has on agriculture.
The third Saturday of every month is Kid’s Craft Day at the John Deere Pavilion, and on this particular Saturday kids made snowmen out of paper plates and other materials. Their day spent at the facility taught them why snow is so important to farmers.
“John Deere is very very much aware of sustainability and of the need for those scarce resources – our land, our waters, and snow fits into that ecosystem that we all need,” said Pavilion Tour Guide Judith Rehder. “When everybody else is complaining about shoveling snow, I know that in fact snow is such a good thing; good for the environment, and it is a good thing for the kids.”
Rehder said they try to make the crafts fun so that kids actually learn from them.
“If kids aren’t having fun they’re not going to engage, they’re not going to be part of it,” she said. “So we do try to make the crafts fun.
