The man who found an envelope containing documents and $40,000 didn’t hesitate to do what he could to return it all to the rightful owner.
KPTV reports 71-year-old Sharon Davis was at a grocery store January 10, 2014 when she apparently lost an envelope containing $2,000 in cash, a $38,000 cashier’s check and paperwork for a home she was about to purchase.
She got a cup of coffee and that’s when she realized the envelope was missing. Davis frantically retraced her steps, checked with shops in the area and called authorities.
Luckily for Davis, a very honest man found that envelope.
“My first thought is that this person, whoever it is, is a wreck, and they are probably losing their mind trying to retrace their steps,” said Brian DiCarlo, who found the envelope. DiCarlo reported the discovery to the local sheriff’s department and then turned the envelope over to them.
Deputies used the paperwork in the envelope to find Davis and return the envelope to her. She later called DiCarlo, and was emotional as she thanked him.
“I guess I would have hoped someone would have done it for me,” DiCarlo said.
