An aspiring dancer died in a freak accident at a Chicago dance studio.
Marco Antonio Huicochea Gonzalez, 22, was killed when he pulled down a steel aerial acrobatic ring and it landed on his head during a rehearsal break Monday afternoon, January 13, 2014.
Acrobatic rings are used as dancing props. The size and weight of the ring involved were not immediately clear.
WGN reports the medical examiner determined Gonzalez died of blunt force trauma to the head. His death was ruled an accident.
“It is with great sadness that I share the following news,” DanceWorks artistic director Julie Nakagawa said in a statement on the group’s website.
Information about Gonzalez on the site said he was from Mexico and had joined DanceWorks Chicago in 2013.
