Galesburg man’s body found in Knox County field

The body of a man was found nearly 600 feet from a road in Knox County, Illinois.

The discovery was reported to police at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014.  Deputies arrived to find the body of a man, believed to be between 35 and 40 years old, approximately 577 feet from the road on land in the 1800 block of Knox Road 500 E.

The coroner declared the man dead at the scene.

The day after the discovery, police said the body was that of 38-year-old Shannon Porter of Galesburg.

Investigators said they initially believed there was no foul play involved.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, January 15.
