Family discovers veteran’s military accomplishments after his passing

A Quad City family was surprised to find out that their recently deceased father had military medals they never knew about.

A Quad City family was surprised to find out that their recently deceased father had military medals they never knew about.

On Saturday, January 11, 2014 the family of World War II veteran, Eugene Diederich was presented with his military medals. The replacement medals were presented by Congresswoman Cheri Bustos at her Rock Island office.

Eugene’s wife Annette Diederich said he passed away in April of 2013. Eugene’s son Kevin Diederich said the family learned about the medals after his father’s passing and they contacted Veteran’s Affairs to get replacement medals.

The replacement medals were as follows: Good Conduct Medal, European – African – Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Bronze Star – Attachment (Triple), World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, Marksman Badge and Carbine Bar and Rifle Bar.
