A local man known for holding annual Thanksgiving dinners open to everyone got a grant from Hy-Vee.

The money was raised through the sale of "turkey cards" in November 2013 to help fund the annual dinner organized by Bob Vogelbaugh, better known as "Mr. Thanksgiving."

Hundreds of volunteers help Vogelbaugh serve 2,200 pounds of turkey and all the trimmings at the dinner held each year in the food court area of SouthPark Mall in Moline.

"The volunteers, the donors, and most importantly the diners themselves that feel comfortable coming all these years to make it grow the way it has, going into year 44 and last year being our biggest serving over 3,000 people," Vogelbaugh said.

Vogelbaugh previously said the feast costs anywhere between $17,000 and $18,000.

Vogelbaugh held his 43rd Thanksgiving dinner in 2013.
