Brady Street Suffers Gaping Hole After Water Main Break

Brady Street was reduced to two open lanes near Vander Veer Park after a water main break Thursday morning, January 9th, 2014.

Brady Street was reduced to two open lanes near Vander Veer Park after a water main break Thursday morning, January 9th, 2014.

It happened near Brady Street and Central Park Avenue around 2:45 a.m.  The break created a gaping hole in the ground on Brady Street just east of the park.

A spokeswoman for Iowa American Water said just 10 homes were affected by the water main break, but those customers still had water service.

The Iowa American Water spokesperson said city workers would likely not be able to patch up the hole on Brady Street for another couple of days.

On Friday the City of Davenport said the repairs will not be complete until Tuesday or Wednesday, January 14 or 15. A spokesperson from the city is recommending drivers to take alternate routes. Brady Street will be down to two open lanes in the area of the break until repairs are made.

Thursday was the third day in a row though that water main breaks struck communities in the Quad Cities area.  One forced a boil order advisory for part of Milan, Illinois.  Breaks in Davenport and in Rock Island both resulted in vehicles being stranded in ice so deep their wheels were frozen their wheels to the ground.
