A local group is competing to be the favorite achievement of Guinness World Record fans.

The Backwater Gamblers Water Ski Show Team record for the largest human waterskiing pyramid put the group as the number one seed in the competition to become the GWR Fan Choice favorite for Record of the Year.

The folks at GWR said they found some “technical abnormalities” that affected semifinal voting, so they reopened that voting from scratch.  So, instead of the champion being announced December 31, semifinal voting was extended to January 2, 2014.

That’s when the top two vote-getters will be announced, and fans will have a chance to vote one more time to choose their favorite Record of the Year.

The largest human waterskiing pyramid is up against the largest mobile phone gaming party on one side of the semifinals bracket.  The other side pits the record for the most skips in one hour against the largest swimwear parade on skis.

Semifinals voting polls close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on January 2, 2014.
