According to a spokesperson from Tribune, the deal became official on Friday, December 27, 2013 and made Tribune the largest combined independent broadcast group and content creator in the country.

The Federal Communications Commission approved Tribune’s application on Friday, December 20, allowing the multimedia company to acquire 16 of Local TV’s television stations in 14 markets across the country.

Across the United States, Tribune owns 39 television stations. Included in the transaction was 14 CW affiliates, 14 FOX affiliates, 5 CBS affiliates, 2 NBC affiliates, and 3 ABC affiliates including WQAD News 8.
