Crews repair Davenport overpass after single car crash

A man lost control of his vehicle and struck the Canadian Pacific Railroad Overpass near Mound Street in Davenport.

A man reportedly lost control of his vehicle and struck a railroad overpass in Davenport.

According to a spokesperson from the Davenport Police Department after 10 p.m. Thursday, December 26 a 20-year-old man traveling eastbound on Kirkwood Blvd. lost control of his vehicle and struck the Canadian Pacific Railroad Overpass near Mound Street in Davenport.

After the crash the driver was taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say the roadway was closed for an inspection of the bridge.

According to the Davenport Public Works, beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend, Kirkwood Blvd. will be closed at the Railroad Bridge for emergency repairs.

A spokesperson from the City of Davenport has advised drivers avoid the area while repairs are made. He added that the roadway should be reopened by Sunday morning.

The driver was cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
