Police say they caught an Iowa City burglary suspect because he dropped his debit card and left behind distinct footprints at the scene of the crime.
Jail records show Carloss Sanders, 20, was booked into the Johnson County Jail Monday, December 23, 2013 after he was accused of felony second-degree theft, felony third-degree burglary and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports police alleged Sanders stole a safe, which contained about $2,000 in cash, from an upstairs bedroom after he kicked in the back door and broke into a home Sunday, December 22. Investigators said they found Sanders’ debit card at the crime scene, and later matched footprints left behind to shoes, with a distinctive Route 66 emblem on the sole, found in Sanders’ home.
Court records show Sanders was appointed a public defender and was released to the supervision of the Department of Corrections after making his initial appearance in Johnson County Court that same day.
Jail records show Sanders was released from the Johnson County Jail on Monday, December 23.
