Quad Citians got to enjoy a showing of a family favorite, A Christmas Story, with one of the cast members in attendance.

The 30-year-old holiday film was shown at the Adler Theatre in Davenport Saturday, December 21, 2013. Ian Petrella, who played Ralphie’s kid brother Randy was there for the viewing.

Petrella said he is amazed at how popular the movie has become.

“Now there’re leg lamps and merchandise and we’re bringing it back in theaters and there’s a musical,” said Petrella. “It’s kind of, you know, it’s very surreal to now celebrate something that you did when you were 8 years old.”

When the movie was released in 1983 it was only in the theaters for two weeks. It cost about $4 million to make and grossed just $2 million at the box office.
