Kalona man dies in fiery crash

Police said a Kalona, Iowa man died when the truck he was driving hit a tree and caught fire.

A report from Iowa State Police said Merle Miller, 63, was headed southbound after leaving a cattle lot when he crossed Highway 22 just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013.

The Ford F250 Miller was driving then went into the ditch south of 1869 Highway 22, and continued south into a farm field until it struck a tree and caught fire.

Police said the truck was engulfed in flames.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Miller was the only occupant of the truck.  No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
