On a snowy morning, people in the Quad Cities gathered to honor our heroes... past and present.

The annual Wreaths Across America ceremony took place the Rock Island National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

The program pays tribute to our fallen and current service members through wreaths representing each branch of the military as well as our POWs/MIAs.

"It's very important," Lieutenant Colonel with the Civil Air Patrol, Thomas Nielsen, said. "These people that we see here put their lives on the line so that we as Americans can enjoy our freedoms."

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos and Congressman Dave Loebsack were also at today's event, which takes place at national cemeteries across the country every year on the second Saturday of December at 12pm eastern time.

The ceremony is open and free to the public every year.
