All four Republican Illinois Gubernatorial candidates took part in a public forum Wednesday, December 11th, 2013 at the i-Wireless Center.

The debate included Illinois State Senators Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady. State Treasurer Dan Rutherford and businessman Bruce Rauner  also attended. The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce hosted the event. The chamber invited Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, but he did not attend.

Governor Quinn is claiming a big win, in the Illinois pension debate. The plan cuts benefits for public workers and retirees. It also pushes back worker retirement ages if they are younger than 40. Unions throughout the state are upset with the plan though.

All four candidates discussed pension reform, taxes, and the Illinois economy. The only candidate to support the pension bill that passed on December 3rd was Brady. Rauner claims that the state needs to be "run like a business." He also believes that a teacher's salary needs to be based on merit pay.
