An Arizona man says he was banned for life from Walmart.
ABC affiliate KNXV reported Joe Cantrell told them he loves Walmart and visits the store at least twice a day.
Cantrell is a disabled former wrestler, who says he started ad matching about four months ago. Walmart advertises they will match other retailers’ lowest advertised price on identical products carried in their stores.
Cantrell reportedly complained to a manager when his Walmart store didn’t honor an ad match he requested. Cantrell says that complaint ended with the Walmart manager calling the local sheriff’s department to complain that he felt threatened and intimidated by Cantrell.
“I was upset but never once did I say anything to the gentleman,” Cantrell said.
When he returned to buy Christmas ornaments at the store a few days later, Cantrell was reportedly handcuffed and given a court summons along with a notice that he was banned for life from any Walmart in the world.
Cantrell said that when the deputies realized the nature of the complaint, they let him go. He was not arrested but he was charged with threatening, intimidation and disorderly conduct.
And the Walmart ban stands.
KNXV reported they received a statement from Walmart which said, “We make every effort to make sure our customers have a good experience in our stores. As in previous situations, we attempted to work with this customer. However, in this situation, the associate felt unsafe and so we contacted local law enforcement. We are continuing to cooperate with law enforcement on their investigation.”
