Demolition of the old Audubon School began Monday, December 9th, 2013.
Earlier this year, there were two different offers to buy the school, but both have not been approved. On October 22nd, the school board voted to tear down the building.
This summer, Fareway Grocery Stores wanted to buy the building on 18th Avenue and make it a new store. They offered $475,000 to buy the building but later pulled out because of concerns from neighbors.
Since then, local developer Joe Lemon has made a formal offer on the building for $100,000. His offer though, came in two and a half weeks after the school board had voted to tear it down.
District leaders believe the land may be worth more once the building is torn down. Officials with Valley Construction say the building should be demolished in the next five to six weeks. The district currently doesn't have any offers to buy the land.
