Local high school seniors can start applying for the 2014 Bandit Scholars Program.

Beginning Wednesday, December 4, 2013 the Quad Cities River Bandits are accepting applications for the 2014 Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship and 2014 Bandit Scholarship. Each award will be received by one high school senior.

Scholarship recipients will have their entire first year of tuition paid for and will get a summer internship following the first year of college, according to a spokesperson from the Bandits. All Quad Cities-area high school seniors that will attend Black Hawk College or Western Illinois University in Moline are eligible to apply for the Bandit Scholarship. All seniors entering the University of Iowa are eligible for the Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship.

Applications are available at the River Bandits’ website and will be accepted until February 14, 2014.

“The Bandits Scholars Program recognizes and supports the promising futures of talented students and young leaders in the Quad Cities, and it continues to be a wonderful way for the River Bandits to give back to a community we love,” said River Bandits co-owner Dave Heller.

The winners will be announced at a 2014 River Bandits home game at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport.

The scholarship program was founded in 2009 by River Bandits owners Dave Heller and Bob Herrfeldt. They are funded by promotional events including the annual Frost Fest and the Bandits Race to Home 5k.
