Parents have a second chance to sign up their kids for Toys for Tots. Fewer families have registered this year so registration has been extended.
Like every year volunteers at Toys for Tots have no trouble staying busy.
"I've had over 1,000 toys that we've counted and sorted today," said volunteer Dawn Thurman.
However, this year fewer families have registered.
"We're a little bit behind last year, but hopefully that's a good thing," said Staff Sergeant, Matt Starratt for Toys for Tots.
Last year Toys for Tots helped 4,000 families in need, this year only 3,500 have signed up.
"Maybe we've had a good financial year and parents really don't need our help this year."
To make sure, parents have one more chance, with two extra registration days on December 6th and 7th.
"We're going to do two more days, anybody that might have not had the opportunity last week to come," said Starratt.
As always donations are still needed despite the low number of registrations.
"We really haven't really hit the main portions so we're still looking to get a lot of donations."
They've only bagged about a quarter of toys they need to fulfill all their families Christmas wishes. They hope to keep the number of families down and the number of donations up.
"You don't want a kid to wake up and not have anything to open up at Christmas time," said Thurman.
WQAD will be collecting toys December 3, 2013 from 5am-7pm, outside the station at 3003 Park 16th street, Moline.
