Downtown Davenport could soon see some big changes.
The Davenport City Council and Restoration St. Louis will be meeting Monday night to discuss the redevelopment of three buildings between Main and Brady on Second street.
The project is known as City Square.
Bill Boom is a member of the Davenport City Council and explained his excitement for the project.
"It's an opportunity to have a $60 million development in downtown Davenport which I think will cap off the things we have been doing the last few years," said Boom.
The project would turn the nearly vacant buildings into a 60-suit hotel, market-rate housing, Class A office space, and a grocery and pharmacy.
"It would be a winning outcome for both the city and the developers," said Boom.
Restoration St. Louis would receive a property tax reimbursement from the city of Davenport. That would help fund the $60 million project.
Those like Brett Loving, who is a supervisor at the Woodfire Grill in downtown Davenport, gets an up close view of the nearly vacant buildings daily.
"You know, it's been empty for so long I don't think anyone knows what to address it as which is what is building so much excitement about the development," said Loving.
Loving told News 8 that nearly 30 percent of the Woodfire Grill's customers are those who are traveling and staying in hotels in the area.
"Another hotel would help businesses and not only for us, but for everyone in the area," said Loving.
As Bill Boom continues to work with his colleges on the city council, he is optimistic about the project.
"It's a project that I would really love to see in downtown Davenport," said Boom.
