Small Business Saturday is the traditional follow-up to the mad shopping day at big-box stores on Black Friday.

Saturday, November 30, 2013 will be Small Business Saturday, and Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon is encouraging residents to participate in the day when shopping for holiday gifts.

“With communities starting to rebuild from the recent tornadoes and severe storms, it is even more important to focus on our local economies,” said Simon. “Buying locally keeps money in our communities and helps our economies grow.”

The Office of the Lt. Gov said according to the Small Business Association, Illinois small businesses employ nearly half of the private-sector labor force, over 2 million workers.
