Davenport school board ends deal with Edison Learning

The Davenport School District voted to end a long time agreement with Edison Learning Inc. that had been in place at Jefferson Edison School since 1999.

The Davenport School District voted to end a long time agreement with Edison Learning Inc. that had been in place at Jefferson Edison School since 1999.

Monday, November 25, 2013 the school board voted unanimously to not renew the contract with the company.  The contract ends in June.

Although members say it was a tough decision, they say ultimately it had to be done.

"We had some initial success, great success. We saw the numbers skyrocket the first couple years, but that didn't parlay into a long term dynamic, unfortunately," said board member Richard Clewell.

Not renewing the contract will save the district around $700,000.

District officials say they will work immediately to provide new services to the students.
